Never buy the first models of anything. That 2.8 is going to get problems. Every time they change something it takes a few years of recalls to get it right.

Find me a Petrol 4WD that gets me the same fuel efficiency as the 2.8l turbo Diesel. I'm getting less than 10l/100 unloaded and 14l/100 with van in tow. When comparing diesel to petrol you need to look at cars other than the V8's.

Safety and storage of fuel & torque make diesel my choice, i went from lpg to petrol now td in the same car and it only got better and cheaper to run with more torque for towing.

I’ve owned 3 Landcruisers FJ45 with a 318V8 105 petrol and now a 200 V8 petrol. I love my current V8 it’s not bad on fuel but for me as a truck driver I have enough of listening to diesels while I’m working when I’m not being paid I just want that effortless oomph.

Cunnamulla is close to my hometown of Thargomindah. I used to go to school on Cunnamulla, have family still there. Miss being out in south west Queensland Thargomindah i miss it .

Petrol - more dangerous to carry than diesel. Diesel engine, built tougher than equivalent petrol. Have owned both- FJ60, 3.4L Prado, 3.0L Prado and now a 3.0L Ranger, I think the diesel is way better to drive and tow than the petrol.

Ranger 3.2l is sooo shit. 10k for a headgasket, 10k for fuel contamination, 10k for injector failure, 10k for egr failure. 3k for turbo failure. Im barra swapping and never gona look back

Take a look at what is coming out of China if you want to know what is the future for 4WDs. The Prado-sized Fangchengbao 5 (sub brand of BYD and related to the BYD Shark twin cab ute) has a super efficient 1.5L turbo petrol and two electric motors as a parallel hybrid. Can drive 100km+ on electric alone, and gets maybe 7.5L/100km otherwise. Then you have more hardcore vehicles like the Dongfeng M-917 which is available in both a pure EV and a series hybrid (engine only powers a generator) and smashes a 300-series Landcruiser for mad features. In the short term, we will see deeper PHEVs (not mild hybrids like the Toyota) and long term it will be pure Battery EVs.

Went from a diesel 90 to a petrol 120. I didn't mind the 90, and used a bit less fuel, but not a huge difference. It definitely drives nicer, but I never expected the 90 to be quick!

Bought my 4.8ltr double overhead cam petrol GU patrol new in 2002. Had it for 14 years. Had a unichip and Beaudesert exhaust. 15ltrs/100km at a steady 100km/hr. Never got worse than 23ltrs/100km towing a toy hauler with dune buggy and everything that a family of 5 needed for 2 weeks camping. Car was generally lightly loaded but carrying 5 people. Trailer weight around 3 tonnes with 80 ltr water tank tools buggy etc. etc.

Diesel is my choice due to less electrics but this tax on new suv/4x4 like 25k extra tax on a Landcruiser is so wrong
